The Multatuli Museum is located in the birthplace of the author, Korsjespoortsteeg 20, Amsterdam, between Singel and Herengracht.

The museum has a threefold mission:
Façade and entry of the Multatuli museum

  • Organizing exhibitions that throw more light on the life of the author and on aspects of his work. On the basis of objects from his personal possessions the visitor is given an impression of life in the second half of the 19th century. Amongst other things the museum possesses Multatuli's writing desk, his library, the chaise longue in which he died, and books and pictures from the rich museum collection.

  • Collecting, conserving and making available books and other printed material to promote and stimulate the study of Multatuli.

  • Providing information and organizing activities to do with Multatuli.

How to get there?

From the Central Station a ten minute walk will take you to the Korsjespoortsteeg, but you can also take tram 1, 2, 5, 13 or 17. At the first stop you get off (stop Nieuwezijds Kolk).
